I just found Euclid’s Elements online for free. Awesome!
If you’d like to take a gander just go here.
This is my first year attending the GCTM conference at Rock Eagle but it definitely will not be my last. This year’s conference has plenty of highs and lows.
The highs:
I’ve gotten to attend some really awesome PD sessions this year. I love nothing more than sharing ideas/strategies/best practices with teachers from all over the state of Georgia. I only wish the sessions were more collaborative ( differentiated) as opposed to the tried and true lecture style of old.
The lows:
I’ve attended sessions that were nothing more than glorified sales pitches. I mean, the people running the sessions didn’t even pretend to care about what the specific needs of my students were. They just pushed some pre-packaged product on a room full of professional who are already doing 90% of the things they tried to package and sell as innovative.
The use of technology by the conference is severely lacking. I attended two sessions yesterday where the presenter used an old school overhead projector and transparencies to conduct their session. Technology isn’t a necessity but it does enhance the overall presentation. I was really shocked to see that the math gods of Georgia would even allow presenters to come in with anything less than an a PowerPoint presentation.
Overall, I am enjoying myself though. I’ve gotten some great ideas, had some of my current practices validated, and I am actually thinking about presenting at next year’s conference.
A just read a great post from NYC educator’s blog. Enjoy the teachery goodness.
Also, take a gander at this post from on the tenure track. Hilarious.
If only all teachers could do this. Poetic justice is sweet.
This is pretty interesting. I may have to give it a try myself.
