Bittersweet

My old school made AYP again for the first time since I began work there and I was a huge part in making that happen.

I worked as department chair and as interim academic coach regularly putting in 12 hour days to create engaging lessons for my students. I literally spent thousands of dollars on school supplies, technology, and anything else that I thought could make the math more real to my students.

I just got word that the math department achieved an overall 80% pass rate on the spring 2009 administration of the GCRCT.

The victory is sweet because I know much of their success comes as a direct result of the time, money, and effort I and the teachers in my department put in. My students won’t have to attend summer school and they can really see that my over the top teaching style was what they needed to be successful.

It’s bitter because the system let me go because of technicalities, mis-communication, and budget cuts.

I helped that school make AYP at the beginning of my time with them…and at the end of my time with them. Not bad to book end your time with an organization with success.

On to the next adventure…
